Crystal Clear: Crystal Palace 1 - 2 Arsenal – Report & Player Ratings

 Final Score
Crystal Palace 1 - 2 Arsenal

With only five points between them and the relegation zone, Palace were looking to keep all three points today. Arsenal though, needed the same points for their push for top four and beyond.

Thankfully for The Gunners, things started well.

Welbeck was brought down in the seventh minute just inside the box, allowing Cazorla to confidently slot it home.

The rest of the first half was rather bland though. If anything, Palace were looking more likely to score. Until Giroud bagged another goal just before half time, that is.

Welbeck was once again causing problems in the box. His shot was saved, but Giroud was there to knock it in from close range.

“Arsenal were compact, professional and resolute. A good three points secured.”

Arsenal looked slightly more dangerous in the opening stages in the second half. At one point, Ozil led an awesome counter attack, and also assisted Alexis. Unfortunately, the Chilean’s effort was wide of the post.

Unfortunately though, a clean sheet wasn’t possible. A sloppy goal was conceded in injury time, making the final few seconds troubling.

But Arsenal were compact, professional and resolute in order to get the win. A good three points secured.

Arsenal Player Ratings

Ospina: [6.5/10]

Didn’t have much to do, looked comfortable. Came out to header the ball when he didn’t need to though.

Monreal: [6.5/10]

Zaha gave him a tough time, but he handled himself.

Mertesacker: [6.5/10]

Nothing major to talk about, comfortable.

Koscielny: [6.5/10]

Nothing major to talk about, comfortable.

Chambers: [6/10]

Gave away silly free kicks, wasn’t great going forward.

Coquelin: [6.5/10]

Palace were attacking down the flanks almost exclusively, so Francis had a quiet one.

Ozil: [8/10] - MOTM

Another great performance from Mesut. He was technically brilliant, and would have had a great assist had Alexis finished his chance. Scored a goal which was wrongly ruled offside.

Cazorla: [7/10]

No problems, calm and comfortable in the middle.

Alexis: [6.5/10]

A quiet game from Alexis, should have scored in the second half.

Welbeck: [7.5/10]

Caused a lot of trouble. Won a penalty, and was involved in Giroud’s goal too.

Giroud: [7/10]

Not a great game from him, but he popped up with another goal.
