The Gunners are seeking to beef up their defensive midfield but have failed to land any of their targets for the position so far.
Geoffrey Kondogbia joined Serie A side Inter Milan from Monaco for €35million while Morgan Schneiderlin was snapped up by Premier League rivals Manchester United for £25million.
Daily Star reports that Southampton’s high demands for Schneiderlin may have been the reason why Arsenal backed out of the deal; but the Gunners are now reportedly readying a massive £55million bid for both Aturo Vidal and Lars Bender.
Juventus midfielder Vidal who has been granted permission to leave the Turin side for the right price, would cost the Gunners £32million while Lars Bender who has been a long term target for the Gunners would weigh in at £22million.
Either of both players would effectively suit Arsenal’s style of play and why it would be ideal for Arsenal to sign both, the Gunners will need to sell first in order to make room for the duo.
Mathieu Flamini could likely be allowed to join French side Bastia while Mikel Arteta - if he stays fit, might be reserved for domestic cup games thus leaving Wenger with three top quality defensive midfielders in Coquelin, Vidal and Bender to provide cover for the defense.
Wenger had assured supporters that the club is looking at signing one or two more quality players and the fans would be hoping that the yet to be made additions would adequately address the club’s defensive midfield and attacking deficiencies.
