Arsenal and Everton are set go head to head in the race to sign Deportivo La Coruna striker Lucas Perez, according to reports.
Arsene Wenger wants to sign a centre forward to bolster his attacking options this season and has been linked with a number of strikers but has been put off by the prices being quoted.
According to the Daily Mail, Arsenal have now made a late move for Perez who would be available for a relatively cheap fee. The striker reportedly has a release clause of £16.9m.
The club monitored Perez throughout last year and have now formalized it’s interest as Wenger attempts to bring in a striker before Tuesday’s deadline.
Everton have been in talks with Deportivo over the services of the striker and Arsenal’s move could scupper the chances of the Merseyside club signing the 27 year old.
Perez might not be the big name signing the fans are yearning for but the striker could be a decent addition to the squad that is short of options at centre forward. He scored 17 La Liga goals last season which isn’t a bad stat.
In another report, Arsenal are also interested in Juventus striker Simone Zaza.
