Arsene Wenger has hailed Olivier Giroud for his match winning strike against West Brom on Monday.
Giroud scored a superb header in the 86th minute of the game against West Brom to help us secure all three points. It was a hard fought victory but Giroud’s goal was enough to give us all available three points.
After the game, Wenger was full of praises for the striker and hailed his attitude this season.
Prior to the game against West Brom, Giroud had to come off the bench on 10 occasion and has been our hero on several occasions.
And in his first league start of the season, the striker was Arsenal’s hero again and Wenger couldn’t help but hail his quality.
“He always makes a point when he comes on because he has scored many times when he comes in,” Wenger said.
“He has qualities in our squad that are needed and that the other players have not. He’s a fighter too and has a fantastic mentality.
“It has been frustrating for him because he didn’t always play but I think we have an honest relationship.
“I have big respect for him and he knows that he was not always playing but despite that he kept a strong motivation level.
“Part of the job of a player is to be always ready, the players who are always ready will be there and the players who feel sorry for themselves get their chance and they give you one more reason to justify why you didn’t select them. The fighters are always ready.”
Wenger also hailed the quality options he has in attack and claims he will continue to make the right decision, depending on our opponents.
Giroud’s goal made sure Arsenal remain in the top four, nine points behind league leaders Chelsea.
