Arsenal have been linked with a possible move for highly rated Brazilian defensive midfielder Renan from club Avai, according to Metro.
The 17-year-old star who has already stamped his foothold in Avai’s first-team squad beating off competition from experienced players like Eduardo Costa and Uelliton, impressed the Gunners scouts with his brilliant displays. And reports in Brazil suggest he could be set for a move to the Emirates Stadium this summer.
The Gunners are looking to strengthen their defensive midfield position and provide support for Francis Coquelin.
Renan joined Avai’s Youth team in 2011, and at age 16, he was the most valuable player in the São Paulo Juniors Cup - a feat which attracted interest from several teams in Brazilian football.
The high rated youngster whose full name is Renan Martins Pereira, is known for his intelligent match-reading ability, marking power and great technical quality to control the ball; and local media sources say he is almost a ‘complete player’.
His young age means Arsenal will only need to cough out a meager sum to acquire his services.
